The town of Bellingen is half way between Sydney and Brisbane. It is situated in valleys so beautiful it could be the garden of Eden. In the 1970s it’s dairy industry was dying and the timber cutting was in decline. Locals were leaving in droves. They were eagerly replaced by cashed up hippies keen to practise a countercultural lifestyle of free love, dope and expanded consciousness.
Using contemporary interviews with the hippies and townspeople of the 70s and blending never before seen archival movie footage, filmmakers Geddes and Gailey have created a warm, funny and insightful odyssey about unstoppable change. Change that has seen Aborigines dispossessed by farmers, farmers by hippies and now hippies by tree changers. And so it goes…..
